Android 404
By playfully imagining what’s behind a 404 “page not found” message, we turned a common error into a delightful brand experience.
Making a Wrong Turn Right
“It’s about the journey, not the destination.” You’ve heard it before and that’s all well and good. But sometimes errors and glitches in your search can make that journey come to a quick dead end. The dreaded 404 page.
Android is a brand that makes life better – more fun, more finds, more cute little androids helping to forget your worries and enjoy the ride. We were tasked with creating a custom 404 page for Android.com that celebrated these brand values. So how could we invent a way that turned a dreaded dead end into an experience that was a little more fulfilling, fun – and dare we say, addictive?
“We imagined what might take place behind the scenes of android.com—a fun play on who’s really powering the website. “

A New, Delectable Destination
After exploring multiple avenues, from simple animations to microsites, we invented a simple, yet sweet pipe dream of a puzzle game. Once users land on the 404 page, they’re greeted with the inner workings of a magical factory where the Androids need your help. Due to its playful nature and challenging gameplay, users who found this “not found” page often ended up returning to spend more time with the game.
Ultimately, this whimsical playful project celebrated the Android brand in classic style—and won the “Awwwards Site of the Day”.

“Help. It's ridiculously addictive once you start playing. It doesn't help that the game is so cutely designed. Seriously, someone help me.“
